2016 Spring Update
Fellow members, May 6, 2016
The board of directors and I welcome you back to Northfield Country Club for another great season.
Our mission is to provide NCC members and guests with great customer service and superior course conditions at affordable rates. That’s the best way for our club to be successful in a very competitive Central Vermont golf market.
This Spring the Board of Directors were contacted by local businessman Tim Tucker and NCC member Tim Healey. They each offered to make generous donations toward replacing the old carpet in our clubhouse. Long time member, Bob Dukette recently donated generously toward the expense of new flooring.
Their generosity inspired Club Treasurer Patti Lewis and I to start the process of sprucing up the interior of our clubhouse. This new “make over” would provide a more enjoyable social environment for our members and guests to enjoy. Our hope is to encourage customers to spend more time inside the clubhouse taking advantage of kitchen and pro shop services.
We held two work bees with volunteer help just to pull up the old carpet in the Pro Shop, main clubhouse and bar areas. At another work bee volunteers installed a new subfloor in the main clubhouse and bar areas.
NCC hired Pat McGinley to replace the old wood flooring that existed under the rug removed from the Pro Shop.
Pat got us a great deal on new Vermont brown maple hardwood flooring that he and his crew installed, sanded, and varnished.
Delairs Carpet and Flooring Inc. gave us a good deal on new carpet and new vinyl tile flooring that they installed in the clubhouse and bar areas.
Both of these contractors have exchanged golf and cart use at NCC this season for payment on all or part of their labor expense for these flooring projects.
Patti Lewis has put her design skills to work changing some lighting, drapes, paint colors, and even adding new furniture to enhance the ambiance of the center of the clubhouse, restrooms, and bar area.
Our board also decided to purchase a new dishwasher and upright freezer for the kitchen to replace aging, inefficient appliances. The old dishwasher leaked and always needed costly repairs. These efficient new appliances will help decrease our club’s utility bills each season.
Many members have volunteered with their labor, painting, carpentry, and maintenance skills saving us a lot of money to complete the renovations. Merile Guillette, Derrek Barlett, Bob Plastridge, Dylan Otis, and many more volunteered at four spring work bees we held.
There are still a few odd jobs left around the clubhouse that volunteers can do to help complete the renovation. Please check with Patti or me for details.
Please also consider making a donation to help NCC pay for the expense of our clubhouse “make over” and updates. The original three contributions will cover much of the renovation expenses. Your additional help will enable NCC to pay for the entire cost of materials.
During the off-season NCC hired Mitchell Evans as our new Course Superintendent.
Mitchell has a degree in golf course turf grass management from Horry-Georgetown Technical College. He previously has worked as second assistant course superintendent at Dunes Golf and Beach Club in Myrtle Beach, S.C. and worked as an intern under his Dad, Billy Evans at Barre Country Club.
Justin Potter has returned to work on the course maintenance crew this season. We are very happy to have him back on the staff.
Our board of directors is dedicated to returning our course turf grass conditions back to the high quality that Northfield enjoyed during the late 1980’s.
Ryan McDonald, club PGA pro, and his entire staff are committed to providing an enjoyable golf experience for all of our members and guests.
Let them help you with any equipment and golf supply needs that you may have to enhance your game. Our Pro Shop is stocked with a variety of 2016 golf supplies for your golfing needs. Ryan and his staff can also special order any new equipment you might be looking for.
Ryan is always available to schedule a lesson or two to help improve your game.
We have many upcoming tournaments/events that are fun for players of any golfing ability. Please click on the 2016 NCC schedule of events at our web site www.northfieldcountryclub.com for more information.
Each upcoming event will have a sign up sheet posted in the clubhouse leading up to the date of the event. Ryan and his staff can answer any questions about any scheduled tournaments you may wish to participate in this year.
Our club is also available to host any outside tournament you may be planning this season. Please ask Ryan about available dates to schedule your golfing event.
Hillary Amell returns as our NCC Food and Beverage manager for the 2016 season. Hillary and her staff are ready to provide delicious menu items at a fair price for our members and guests. Please let Hillary know any ideas on how our food and beverage service can better meet your needs.
Hillary and her staff are also ready to cater any tournament or special event that you may be planning. Please contact Hillary to reserve our facility and service for your event.
Bob Quinlan and John Mitchell both passed away recently. Both were very loyal, long time members of Northfield Country Club.
John Mitchell was known by our staff as the NCC “appliance repair man”. He was always available to help fix our equipment when something broke down.
He was part of our bridge “rebuild crew” after Tropical Storm Irene destroyed all five of our bridges.
Best of all, John always had a smile and a joke to share with us to help brighten our day.
These members leave behind many golfing friends that will miss them greatly.
I hope you enjoy your golf season here at Northfield Country club!
New Course Superintendent
Northfield Country Club is pleased to announce the addition of our new superintendent, Mitchell Evans, to our dedicated team. Mitchell comes to us after having completed his degree in Golf Course Turf Grass Management at Horry-Georgetown Technical College. He has also worked as the second assistant superintendent at Dunes Golf and Beach Club in Myrtle Beach, SC. Mitchell helped us immensely in the 2015 season. Mitchell is excited to begin his career as a head superintendent and we are excited to have him on board. He will be focusing on making sure that our course is the best that it can possibly be for our members. Please join us in welcoming Mitchell to the club in 2016 and supporting him in his first year on the team.
